1. The service

Writebox is a text editor that runs in your browser. You can use it for free without an account. We may add, change, or remove features. We will not make features that are free today (writing, saving, cloud storage connections, themes, focus mode, printing) paid features for existing users.

2. Your documents

Your documents belong to you. Writebox stores them in your browser and, if you connect one, in your own cloud storage. We do not store the contents of your documents on our servers and we do not read them. Please keep backups of important documents; browsers and cloud services can lose data.

3. Accounts

A Writebox account is optional and is needed for the Supporter Plan. You sign in with Google or with a link sent to your email. You are responsible for keeping access to your email or Google account secure. You can delete your account at any time from the Writebox menu (Delete Account).

4. Supporter Plan

4.1 Benefits. While your Supporter Plan is active, Writebox does not show ads or support banners on devices where you are signed in, and you may get early access to new features. We may change the benefits; if we remove a benefit, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel.

4.2 Price and payment. The price is shown before you subscribe and includes applicable taxes. Payments are processed by Link (Stripe). For customers outside Japan, Link, LLC is the seller of record. Link's terms also apply to your payment.

4.3 Renewal. Your plan renews automatically at the end of each period (monthly or yearly) and is charged to your payment method until you cancel.

4.4 Cancellation. You can cancel anytime from Supporter Plan → Manage subscription. Your plan stays active until the end of the paid period. We do not give prorated refunds for cancelling mid-period.

4.5 Refunds. If you contact us within 14 days of a payment, we will refund that payment in full and end the subscription. Link (Stripe) may also issue refunds under its own policies.

4.6 Price changes. We will notify you at least 30 days before a price change takes effect for your plan. The new price applies from your next renewal after that. You can cancel before then.

4.7 Account deletion. Deleting your account ends your subscription immediately, without a refund for the remaining period (except for refund requests within 14 days under 4.5).

4.8 Future versions. Any plans for other versions of Writebox (such as a desktop app) and their relation to the Supporter Plan will be described when they are released. Nothing in these Terms promises lifetime access or a one-time purchase.

5. Acceptable use

Do not use Writebox to break the law, to attack or overload our servers, to access other people's data or connections, or to interfere with ads or payments in a way that harms us or others. We may suspend access for serious or repeated violations.

6. Advertising

Writebox shows a small ad to some visitors who are not Supporters. Ads are provided by Google AdSense. See the Privacy Policy for details.

7. Disclaimer

Writebox is provided "as is". To the extent permitted by law, we do not guarantee that Writebox will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of data loss.

8. Limitation of liability

This section applies only to damage caused by our ordinary (slight) negligence. In that case, our total liability to you for any claim related to Writebox is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or US$36 (12 months of the Monthly Supporter Plan). This limitation does not apply to damage caused by our intent or gross negligence, or where the law does not allow it.

9. Transfer of the service

If Writebox is transferred to another operator (for example, if the developer incorporates a company or transfers the business), we may transfer our rights and obligations under these Terms, including your subscription and your account information, to the new operator. We will notify you before the transfer.

10. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. For changes that affect you materially, we will notify you in Writebox or by email at least 14 days before they take effect. If you keep using Writebox after that, the new Terms apply.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan, and the Tokyo District Court has jurisdiction as the court of first instance, unless the law provides otherwise. This does not limit any rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the country where you live, including the right to bring a claim in the courts where you live.
